Solo or Not, There Is A Benefit

I’ve come to embrace my cynical side.

Here’s my first rant. I roll my eyes (deeply) when someone mentions a theme focused retreat. I know some of the biggest names in entertainment have hosted excellent ones over the years: Tom Joyner’s Fantastic Voyage (HBCU scholarships and fundraising) and Oprah Winfrey’s Girls Getaway (Wellness). But the massive influx of influencers and life coaches offering retreats to other countries has me questioning if there is any real value or all hype. Since I’d never heard of a writer’s retreat before, I naturally lumped them into the same category: unnecessary and expensive.

However, I am glad to say that I was right about the expensive part and wrong about them being unnecessary. Writing retreats are shown to help writers:

reduce their fear

provide uninterrupted and protected time

focus on your well being

ability to prioritize one project

and much more.
